For most of my life my concept of science was restricted to test tubes, lab coats, microscopes and impenetrable chemical symbols. I didn’t understand it and it suited me to contain what I didn’t understand to a small corner of my life that didn’t inhibit getting on with things. But surely it is more than that? It makes much more sense to consider science to be that entire spectrum of life that has to do with observation, recollection, association of all objects, events phenomena. From the operation of the sun to contemplation of the very question “what is science?”. What is science but knowledge and explanation of the world as it really is. In all its facets. Yes, some areas of science are more precise, methodical and more readily amenable to logic and reasoning. But that is not the test. If it explains our reality, why we do what we do, it is science.
